Carpet Raid Mac OS
My MBP13 runs hot. Seen it go up to 84deg C ( iStat Pro System Monitor widget).
I am sure physics applies equally to Mac Books as any other device with a silicon chip. This amount of heat can reduce the economic life of the unit (significantly in some cases).
Usually, I just stick something rectangular and flat, about 1+ inch thick, under the rear of the MBP (where the black strip and hot air egress vent is) to get additional cooling for the unit. Something you cannot readily find away from home or the office and sometimes what you do find us not that stable, to be used under a laptop.
The on-screen output will display all the RAID sets currently detected on the Mac. Listed next to the disk's UUID, a numerical value will appear under the Status column to denote the percentage. Holding down the alt (option) key Run the installer from the flash drive Open the terminal remove the current raid and create the new one (the diskutil and gpt commands).
Old and good friend of mine – PC – showed me a novel solution.
Get a squash ball. (about $5 from Rebel Sports) or you can harass your local squash court for a used one, then find a carpet knife (if no one is looking the bread knife).
Slice the squash ball into half. Careful as the blade may slip off the ball and it will all end up in blood and tears. To be absolutely safe – jam the ball in a doorway, using the door and the door jamb as a makeshift vice and slice to your hearts content.
Sliced Ball
You can guess the rest.
The good thing about using a squash ball is that they are made of rubber and have a grippy surface, so they tend to stay put. When placed at the corners to support a MBP, they make for a very stable rig.
This is my MBP sitting on one of the halves of the ball. Good amount of space for a bit of additional airflow to the hottest part of the unit.
Corner Protection
But wait there is more.
To carry them around, I cup them over the edges of the MBP. They give additional protection to the corners of the MBP.
Cute and tough to beat for just AUD$5 .
All thanks goes to PC.
At the time of output mac os 10.13 was removed support for boot from RAID 0 drives.
I was looking for a solution. Post on apple developer remained unanswered.
The @taruga solution on real macs needed to be run in single user. In Catalina, the system disc is read-only, which makes the task even more difficult
The entry describes step-by-step installation process
- Download Patcher from @dosdude1 site (@dosdude1 great job! ).
- Create a bootable flash drive. If you need step-by-step instructions on how to create a bootable Flash Drive see the video:
If you’re using a Hackintosh. After creating the installer, install Clover on efi partition on usb installer. If your config and kext work with normal installation, they will also work with Raid. (If you need help with clover configuration you will find it on insanelymac)
- After creating the usb installer Reboot.
- Holding down the alt (option) key
- Run the installer from the flash drive
- Open the terminal remove the current raid and create the new one (the diskutil and gpt commands)
Carpet Raid Mac Os X
- Exit the terminal and open the disk utility and format the array APFS
- Exit disk utility and install macOS Catalina.
- The installer will continue again after the restart.
- At the end you will see that the system cannot be installed. Remove installer & Reboot
- this is necessary to continue with the internal drive and not with the installer on the usb
- The installation error will pop up again.
- click on the menu bar (call up by clicking on wifi) select the terminal from the utilities menu and type
- Restart
- Select the flash drive installer again and boot
- Choose Post Install patch.
- check Apfs patch
- SIP patch
- Be sure you rebuild caches too, the option will show itself after the patches been appleis and its counting down
- Finally Restart & Whala!
Post install
- (Trim support) Open Terminal and type:
- (Update dyld shared ) Open Terminal and type:
- (Update Preboot ) Open Terminal and type:
- (Delete Recovery HD It doesn’t work on raid anyway.) Open Terminal and type:
- Open Terminal and type:
MacOS Catalina developer Beta10.15 – 10.15.5 ( 19F53f )
